Ministry Vision & History
In early 1984 Pastor Damian began driving from Napa, California to teach a Bible study in Modesto each Sunday morning. He was sent by Calvary Chapel of Napa, where he and his family attended church. The following year Damian and his wife Karin believed the Lord was calling them to leave Napa and move to Modesto to give greater attention to God’s work there. In June of 1985 Damian quit his job as a cable splicer with the phone company and moved to Modesto with the blessing of his home church.

This young fellowship met for a time in a variety of locations including a Mary Kay hall, a home, a banquet room shared with a delicatessen and in another church in town. An opportunity opened up to lease and renovate a former dairy and auto repair shop in Modesto’s old downtown. The church met there for about 16 years. In September of 2001, upon the completion of their new building, the church moved to 4300 American Avenue in Modesto where it now meets.

While the locations have changed through the years, the emphasis of the church has always remained the same -- to make mature disciples of Jesus Christ as His Great Commission commands, and to do so the same way it has been successfully done for almost 2000 years as described in Acts 2:42; by continuing steadfastly in teaching God’s Word, in fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Calvary Chapel Modesto believes that when the emphasis of the church becomes what God wants it to be, then He will add to the church daily such as should be saved as Acts 2:47 declares.
